Naturpark Taunus

STORIES FROM A DIVERSE AND THRILLING CULTURAL LANDSCAPE

Spanning some 134,775 hectares, the “Naturpark Taunus” is Hessen’s second-largest nature reserve, situated directly at the gates of the Rhine-Main metropolis. Here you can combine impressive natural experiences and tourist highlights throughout the year.

You can explore the nature reserve on your own or on a guided hike. There are 210 hiking trails with a total length of approx. 1,200 km. A programme of events is published each year, featuring walks to a range of different destinations and of varying difficulty levels. Cyclists can also enjoy numerous marked cycle routes that take you through all areas of the varied landscape. In the winter, interesting ski runs can be found around the Großer Feldberg mountain, and tobogganists can race down the slopes. There’s always enough space to relax with various campsites, barbecue facilities and sunbathing lawns. Visitors wanting a shot of culture can find historical highlights from almost all the ages, including the World Heritage Site of Saalburg Roman fort, Bad Homburg Castle and Hessen Park. Typical country inns and other food and drink outlets entice you to enjoy local products across the nature reserve. A wide range of spa and fitness facilities are also on hand so that you can exercise and relax. The “Hiking in the Naturpark Taunus” book provides detailed information. Alternatively, you can visit the Taunus Information Centre in Oberursel, which also features an interactive exhibition so that visitors can find out all about the special features of the countryside and habitats in the Naturpark Taunus.
