Germany's second largest metropolitan region...

...Frankfurt Rhine-Main is a diverse cultural and economic area named after its core city, Frankfurt am Main, and the Rhine and Main rivers.

Officially known as the Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region and often shortened to the Rhine-Main, frankfurt rhine-main is located towards the south of Hessen, just north of the Bergstrasse-odenwald.

The polycentric region stretches across Hessen's borders into the neighbouring states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Bavaria. In Hessen, it incorporates the cities of Hanau, Offenbach and Darmstadt as well as the district of Groß-Gerau and the green and fertile Wetterau.

The cities of the Rhine-Main together offer imposing skylines, historic half-timbered towns and elegant Art Nouveau architecture. There are ancient castles and Renaissance palaces, gorgeous parks and botanical gardens, and a huge array of theatres and museums to visit and musical and cultural events to attend. In addition, no other region in Germany is home to so many thermal springs and spa facilities: Kings and emperors used to travel from afar to visit the Rhine-Main's health resorts.

It's easy to get out into get out into the countryside here, too. From the romantic vineyard landscapes of the Rheingau to the forests and hills of the Taunus, Vogelsberg and the Spessart, there's plenty of opportunity for day trips or longer adventures, whether you fancy hiking, biking or simply sitting and enjoying the Rhine-Main's magnificent views.

Frankfurt Rhine-Main is located in the heart of Europe and, home to one of Europe's busiest airports, one of Germany's busiest train stations and the country's most used motorway interchange, it's very easy to reach. To get around just as comfortably, the RheinMainCard allows free and unlimited use of the entire regional transport system (RMV) for up to five passengers.
