The beginning and end of the 50-kilometre Burgwaldpfad trail allows you to discover haunted alleyways and romantic corners of the historical old towns of Marburg and Frankenberg. Bordered by the Lahn and Eder rivers, it spans along one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Hessen, which surprises amazed walkers again and again. From the numerous springs and moors to the idyllic, natural paths and historical towns, as well as the Weißenstein and Mellnau castle ruins and the mythical Christenberg, the countryside along the Burgwaldpfad is full of fascination. Artist Otto Ubbelohde sought inspiration here. His illustrations of the fairytale books by the Brothers Grimm repeatedly feature the legendary Burgwald.
