The Rhine cycle route is becoming one of the most varied in Germany. Narrow sections in the Middle Rhine (Loreley) alternate with steep slopes in the wine-growing areas, and asparagus is grown in the valleys. The castles, palaces and monasteries have witnessed quite an eventful past. The interstate route spans over 100 kilometres and takes you along the right-hand bank of the Rhine in Hessen, beginning at Lampertheim and ending in Lorchausen, where Hessen shares a border with Rhineland-Palatinate. As such, it connects two wine-growing regions in Hessen: the Bergstraße - renowned for its Red Riesling - and the Rheingau - which specialises in Riesling and Spätlese. www.rheinradweg.eu
