Three states, one Rhön. The Hochrhöner trail begins in the Bavarian town of Bad Kissingen and comes to an end in the Thuringian town of Bad Salzungen. You can also do it backwards, of course. The "Ö" points the way. In order to make the scenic diversity of the Rhön biosphere reserve accessible, the Hochrhöner provides an eastern (Lange Rhön) and a western variant (Kuppenrhön). The Kuppenrhön takes you through Hessen and is almost 20 km longer than the Langen Rhön, spanning a total of 141 kilometres. Both options can be combined to create an 86-kilometre round walk. The Hessian Kuppenrhön offers wonderful expansive views in the "land of open views". The individual tree-less summits project out of the landscape and add to the unique, distinctive countryside. As you climb to the top of the strikingly rocky Milseburg and the Wasserkuppe - Hessen's tallest mountain at 950 metres - you can enjoy some literal highlights.
