The Neckarsteig winds along the River Neckar − and often high above it − between the towns of Bad Wimpfen and Heidelberg. As a result, you can enjoy countless wonderful views of the romantic river valley. You'll have to master over 3,100 metres of elevation, perfectly distributed by nature across the 126-kilometre hiking trail. You will also find great harmony in the shape of great personalities: Goethe and Hölderlin walked along these magnificent paths and were deeply touched by the landscape. In the village of Igelsbach, the Neckarsteig takes you from Baden-Württemberg into Hessen. Interestingly, the state border runs right through the small village. With the venerable towns of Hirschhorn and Neckarsteinach, you won't just wander through the most southerly point of Hessen; you'll also pass through one of the oldest settlements in the Neckar Valley.
